Carshalton Artists’ Open Studios (CAOS)
Over the last two weekends of June 2019, we had another very successful CAOS event. Our resident artists, plus a number of guests, exhibited their skills to the many visitors, including the Mayor of Sutton, Councillor Muhammad Sadiq, who also visited the Friends’ information stand and café.

New Members of the Friends
A number of people have taken out annual or life membership of the Friends recently, particularly at the CAOS weekends. We would like to welcome you to the Group and hope you will get involved in future activities.

Nature Walk and Dog Awareness Training
We had two very successful events in the park on 15th June, which we organised with the Downland Trust and the Senior Biodiversity Officer for Sutton, David Warburton.
David led a group of over 20 people into the park to explore the meadow area and flowers growing within it. We also looked at the butterflies.
Connor Harrison and representatives from the Metropolitan Police Dog Unit and the Dogs’ Trust spent the day in the park talking to dog owners and handing out information about maintaining good control of dogs in the park. They answered lots of questions and met a large number of lovely dogs and their owners.

New Leaseholders in the Café
The lease for the café has changed hands. We are delighted to welcome the new leaseholders, Ilhan and Tamara Besler to Oaks Park. We look forward to working with them and their team.

London in Bloom 2019
Once again, the Council has entered its parks into the London in Bloom competition. Our Idverde gardener, Tony, worked extremely hard to get the park looking at its best. The Friends helped by doing a little dead heading, after all the rain. The judges enjoyed their visit to the park on 25th June. The results should be out in September.
